Robert<\/strong> Andrews<\/strong> Millikan<\/strong>, foi um ci\u00eantista estadunidense que fez contribui\u00e7\u00f5es imprescind\u00edveis para a \u00e1rea da f\u00edsica, principalmente nos campos de \u00f3ptica<\/strong>, eletricidade<\/strong> e f\u00edsica<\/strong> molecular<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Por esse motivo, recebeu em 1923<\/strong>, o Nobel de F\u00edsica “por seus servi\u00e7os na determina\u00e7\u00e3o num\u00e9rica da carga<\/strong> elementar<\/strong> e comprova\u00e7\u00f5es do efeito<\/strong> fotoel\u00e9trico<\/strong><\/em>“.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Millikan foi vice-presidente do Conselho<\/strong> Nacional<\/strong> de<\/strong> Pesquisa<\/strong> durante a Primeira Guerra Mundial e desempenhou pap\u00e9is fundamentais na elabora\u00e7\u00e3o de dispositivos<\/strong> anti-submarinos<\/strong> e meteorol\u00f3gicos<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Depois da guerra foi nomeado Diretor<\/strong> do<\/strong> Laborat\u00f3rio<\/strong> de F\u00edsica Norman Bridge<\/strong> no Instituto de Tecnologia da Clif\u00f3rnia e Presidente do Conselho Executivo do Instituto, at\u00e9 sua aposentadoria. Robert Faleceu em 19 de dezembro de 1953.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
