Desde cedo <strong>se interessou por lasers<\/strong>, pois seu pai, que era engenheiro, um dia havia a levado a um museu de ci\u00eancias e apontou laser como o futuro cient\u00edfico.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"block-7454a14e-c810-4e45-9f95-e46b553730f3\">Se formou na <strong>McMaster University<\/strong> (Hamilton, Ont\u00e1rio) em Engenharia F\u00edsica, em uma turma onde era <strong>uma de tr\u00eas mulheres entre 25 homens<\/strong>, no ano de 1981. Publicada em 1985, a pesquisa tratava de um m\u00e9todo de gera\u00e7\u00e3o de pulsos \u00f3pticos ultracurtos de alta intensidade, denominado <strong>CPA (<em>Chirped&nbsp;Pulse&nbsp;Amplification<\/em>).<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ingressou como <strong>professora associada na Universidade de Waterloo<\/strong> em 1997, onde at\u00e9 hoje lidera um grupo de estudos com laser de alta intensidade.
